Gnossienne-moment of awareness that someone you've known for years still has a private and mysterious inner life that will remain maddeningly unknowable to you and you have no way of knowing exactly where you stand.

i'd like to think that i know most of  the people in my life fairly well. 
i know what they like,
what they dont,
what buttons to push
how far i can push them,
how far they'll push back.
i know how they behave in relationships,
when they tell me about a new affection
i can tell whether or not they're serious.
i know their types
i've seen them head over hills
and i've seen them hurt.
i can almost always tell
when somethings bothering them.
over the years ive built up
an arsenal of jokes sure to
cue their laughter.
i know all their stories,
their dreams
hopes
and ambitions.
i've seen what they're capable of.
and let me tell you i've been extremely fortunate
to have some of the most amazing people
swim through my life.
they comfort me,
make me laugh,
encourage me
and boss me around when i need it.
i know these people as well as anyone can
and they know me.
and they are love.


and then there's you.
